Composer of the Week: Hildegard von Bingen

For my second Composer of the Week I’m going back in time to the 12th Century.

Hildegard of Bingen (1098 – 1179), was a Benedictine abbess from Germany.

As well as being a composer, Hildegard was a writer, philosopher, visionary, polymath and mystic in the Christian faith.

She was canonised by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012 and is also known as Saint Hildegard and Sibyl of the Rhine. Her feast day is September 17th.
